2 Barrows goldeneye, 2 eared grebe, 1 holboell grebe
Talbot L. [Lake] 2 loon, 7 Ameri. [American] Merganser, 18
pintail, 4 coot, 4 widgeon [wigeon], 14 geese,
8 scaup, 1 canvasback 8 Barrows
goldeneye, many mallard.
Warbling vireo + Tennessee w. [warbler] up Fiddle Cr [Creek].

Worked at letter writing most of the
day but took a run up to Patricia Lake
+ to Maligne Canyon.
In Patricia there were 4 [male symbol] w.w. [white-winged] scoter
+ in Lakes Anette + Edith nothing.
Census Saw 26 deer of which 3 may have
been counted before
Devona. May 8, 1944
Drove down here this afternoon
+ then walked about 2 miles east
of here. Heavy elk damage becomes
markedly less about a mile east of
the river. There the Eleagnus, willow
+ Shepherdia is heavily browsed but
still has about 50% of last years growth.
+ the majority of the bushes are alive.
