- However they kept looking down
+ working down while I was
above them.
The spike feeding in the circe
had been joined by a young doe.
which I watched eating salal
berries.
A small fork + young
doe watched me unconcernedly
pass round a bluff within
100 yards of them until they
caught my scent when they
ran off up hill.
Breeding. This buck made a short run
at the doe twice after smelling
her - the first indication
I have seen of the coming
breeding season.
Spike-doe pairs Note the frequent association
of 18 mos [months] bucks + does into
pairs. In this area last year
I saw only one pair of twins,
so I cannot think that these
are twin associations.
Molt. Old does are consistently more
pallid than the young does.
Young bucks not moulting [moulting] visibly
yet. Old bucks are. Does not
yet. Fawns still show pale spots
