  • 66 Texas Creek, Lillooet District, Nov. 3-7, 1937. This creek runs into the Fraser from the west 16 miles s. [south] of Lillooet. Trail runs up it some 12 miles to the headwaters. We camped at timberline, 7500' for 3 days in an abandoned mine cabin. Weather fine with high winds and intermittent snow. The dominant trees at the level of the Fraser River are Pinus ponderosa, Pseudosuga [Pseudotsuga], Pinus contorta, with some Juniperus scopulorum [tree species underlined] in the drier spots and along the canyon walls. Further up Picea Engelmannii and P. [Pinus] contorta Murryana take the place of the lower trees, Juniperus communis or J. [Juniperus] scopulorum. [both species underlined] Forest continues thus to timber line where Pinus albicaulis [underlined] is dominant with Picea and Abies amabilis [underlined] abundant, quite a lot of aspen. Alder and black poplar along the river at lower elevations. Mts. [Mountains] high and rugged, with exten- sive rock slides inhabited by Ochotona. Pine [inserted later] Grosbeaks - fairly common.
