- Ovis canadensis [underlined]
The old ewe with the very young lamb was
murmuring to it all the time I watched.
+ photographed the two of them.
Range:- These sheep just summer on this
mountain. [James (Jim)] Simpson has seen the crossing
from the N [north] side of the Bow in the spring
+ returning in the fall. He says that
there is a fine grassy bench on the
lower slopes of Bourgeau + Mt [Mount] Massive
upon which a bunch of rams summer
Also reports rams summering in
the basin behind cathedral.
Vermilion Pass, B.C. [British Columbia] June 25/43 [1943]
Warden J.J. Meredith reports that
apart from the Sinclair Canyon
herd of 25 +/- ewes + 5 + rams there
were a very of [words crossed out] 3 rams seen on the
head of the Simpson last summer.
They no doubt came over from the
Cross River.
Radium Hot Springs. June 27/43 [1943]
Examined winter range - see Journal.
Kills:- Found 4 rams 3-8 yrs [years]
on edge of Sinclair Creek - died during
epidemic 2 yrs [years] ago. 2 others 1 [male symbol] 1 ? on
top of bench adjacent. Apparently
during the intense fever of the septicemia
the sheep all sought the water. Almost
all of the 106 picked up or destroyed were
right at the rivers edge or were the
