  • LEFT PAGE 176 Steamer "Sardonyx" Iron propellor. English Built. Came out for Saunders & [and] Co [company]. About 600 tons. Bought by C.P.N.Co. [Canadian Pacific Navigation Company]. Wrecked off Queen Charlotte Islands in 1889. Total Loss --- Steamer "Danube" English Built Iron propellor. Good Carrier --- --- Steamer "Islander" English or Scotch Built Iron propellor. Built by Bell Napier & [and] Shanks. --- Steamer "City of Kingson" American Built Iron propellor. Came Round from New York in 1890 --- Steamer "City of Seattle" Iron propeller. Built in the Eastern States RIGHT PAGE 177 Bark "Dominion" Strained and became leaky in Feby [February] 1892. Sold at auction for $3500 to Chas Prevost and Whitelaw. Also her Lumber Cargo 900000 feet sold on the beach for $4 1/2 per 1000. Norwegian Bark 1000 tons. Old Buffer. Captain --- Whaleback C. O. Wetmore The first Whaleback vessel on the Pacific Coast. Arrived in Victoria February 11 1892. Capt [captain] Hastings. Came round from the Atlantic Side. Built on one of the great Lakes. Carries 3000 Tons Coal. Flat Bottomed. Was in the Esquimalt Dry Dock for repairs. --- N.B. The Whaleback Wetmore went ashore on the south spit at Coos Bay Oregon and became a total loss in the Breakers in the fall of 1892 She did not seem to be the right Kind of build for the North Pacific Waters Captain O'Brien formerly of the Steamer "Premier" was Capt [captain] when she was lost.
