Miette River to Yellowhead. April 20/43 [1943]
Browse: willow, aspen, raspberry + dogwood
heavily browsed alders not touched.
Banff-Jasper Highway: April 21/43. [1943]
Good moose country mile 18-20 +
again mile 35 up. but moose widely
scattered. A lot of sign around Honey-
moon Lake.
Saw one yearling bull at mile 18.
It ran at 14 miles per hour on
the road without being pressed.
Banff, April 24/43 [1943]
Saw one cow alone in the beaver
meadows about 5 miles west of Banff
+ a cow + calf lying in a sedge
meadow about 2 miles west. The calf
was dark - much darker than its mother.
Warden U. [Ulysses] La Casse found an old bull [word crossed out] cow
about 3 weeks ago very sick with
a terrible cough. He walked up to
within a few feet of the animal.
Next day he was unable to find the
beast.
[Warden Bruce] Mitchell counted 25 moose at one time
in the large beaver meadow 6 mi. [miles] W. [west] of Banff
April 25/43 [1943]
