Birds:- 2 goshawks, 1 red tail, 10 sparrowhawks.
2 cliff [word crossed out] sand martins (shale banks). 4 crossbills.
8 Bohemian waxwings. 1 Eastern Phoebe
at Devona.
Willow Creek. Aug. [August] 15/43. [1943]
Rode from Shale Banks, distance 16 miles
time 4 1/2 hours. Good trail - beautiful day.
Only Game seen 2 goat at shale bank
1 [female symbol] spruce Grouse.
Several hudnred chipping sparrows + Juncos.
Little Heaven Summit. Mowitch Cr. [Creek]. Aug [August] 16/43 [1943]
Rode up here - 12 miles from Willow Cr. [Creek],
time 4 hours. Beautiful day. In afternoon
hiked up mountain west of cabin + along
it 2 miles or so, down to the trail +
back to camp. Distance hiked between
5 + 6 miles
Around willow creek there is some
very interesting open meadowland. It
looks like one time aspen parkland
reaching a climax phase of pine + spruce. Here moose are abundant in
summer, and signs of elk wintering
were noted to 5 miles west of the
Willow Creek Cabin. Marten sign abundant in timber just
below this cabin.
A burn on the west side of this
valley is full of moose + elk at this time
