- Their experimental animals have very large spleen, large
adrenals + thymus.
In commenting on my data [R.A.] Haldane suggested
that selection on range peripheries tended to be
against non diversity dep. [dependent] factors such as climate
+ thus permitted increase of range, while under
optimum they were against density dep. [dependent] factors
+ permitted increased density. He suggests
that too great mobility might be disadvantageous
to a species by continually flooding the
peripheral populations + preventing the development
of pops. [populations] with new adjustments to climate etc [etcetera].
Alan Robertson impressed me as an excellent
type of geneticist for us - about 38-42, good
personality, speaks well, good grasp of need of
outdoor genetics even with Drosophila.
April 9. Yesterday took the children to Peebles to visit
the Wm [William] Blackwoods for a week. Today I
went up by train to Aberdeen to record a
program on wildlife conservation for B.B.C. [British Broadcasting Corporation]
The havock [havoc] in the forests along the
way is unbelievable.
Others on the broadcast were Sir Henry
Beresford-Smith director of Forestry for Scotland
George Waterston, Colin Murdock + A.M. Reid
I understand that the blackgame
are coming to the leks already but
the hens are not mating yet.
