- June 26, 1936. Okanagan Falls, B.C. [British Columbia]
This morning skinned from
5:30 till 8. After breakfast went
down W. [West] side of River + Vasseaux
lake to huge cliff where I
hoped to find Canyon Wrens,
Did a prodigious amount
of climbing in temp [temperature] of
100 [degrees sign] but had no luck at
all. Shot another swift but
could not find it among
the rocks. About 6 pairs
nesting there. Time to hunt
in this country is early May
when birds are singing.
In evening went out
to White Lake again + hunted
streamside for chats. All
the rattlesnakes in the country
were in an alfalfa field
there. There must have been
500 if there were 10 - nice
country to hunt birds in!
Tomorrow morning we go
on to Penticton. Car
giving a little trouble - I
think it is dirty gas.
Saw 21 geese on Dog Lake.
3 families with 5 young in each.
The nests were on the island
at the south end of the Lake.
