- Vancouver, B.C. [British Columbia] Apr. [April] 15, 1942.
Diseases. Examined a yearling buck found
floating in Shawnigan Lake. Dead
about a week - badly decomposed
externally.
No superficial signs of violence;
frothy mucous discharge from
nostrils:- subcutaneous ecchymoses
plus oedema locally on base of
neck + on brisket - apparently
these were bruises suffered
just prior to death. Probably the
result of the deer running
into objects during a chase.
Pleural cavity contained a
small amount - 1/2 cupful - of
brownish red fluid; coronary
sinus congested, heart with
much clotted blood in all four
chambers - post mortem clots.
Lungs with heavy Dictyocaulus [underlined]
infestation - spotted with small
hemorrages [hemorrhages] but neither consolidated
nor nodular. Bronchi inflamed +
contained some bloody, frothy mucous but
no water.
Peritoneum normal liver dark,
purplish red, hard, pebbly rough externally
nutmeg appearance when cut. Spleen
flaccid, wrinkled, almost bloodless.
Mesenteric veins dilated - passive congestion
