- Aug. [August] 6-10 [1939] St [Saint] John's har [harbour] Bardswells B.C. [British Columbia]
Trapped the bardswells + collected some
squirrels Saw several wandering Tatlers [Tattlers] on
the outside rocks of Townsend Island. On
the back door of St [Saint] Johns hr [harbour] I saw a flock of
approximately fifteen shore birds travelling
in a compact formation and at very
high speed, seventy five to ninety miles
an hour I would judge. Although they were
high, about three hundred + fifty feet I
am pretty certain that they were Surf
birds. Collected a downy woodpecker.
August 10-13. [1939] Kent Inlet. Princess Royal I. [Island]
Ran up to Kent Inlet on the 10th + stopped
in a the Potlatch Arena just south of Kent
Inlet, where Mr [Thomas T] McCabe took notes + photographs
Ran out into Laredo Channel on the eleventh +
took a Dall's Porpoise. On the 13th we again
hunted porpoise but were unsuccessful. We saw
a small whale in the channel + followed
him for a while before losing him.
Aug [August] 14 [1939] Kent Inlet - Campania
Had a good trip from Kent Inlet to north
end of Campania Island. Saw a Jaeger on the way.
Saw two large whale with a small fin far
back on the body and a large white area on
the under side of the tail. They would blow
a few times then sound + not appear
again for five minutes or more at a time
