  • Ondatra. [underlined] Bert Boxers Trap line 8 mi [miles] N. [north] Aklavik. June 10/47. [1947] Catch [underlined]:- [Bert] Boxer came here in 1944 + has trapped the line each winter since take was 1944-45 - 1540 (other men were shooting same area) 1945-46 - 500 1946-47 - 464 this last year, with the line registered he formed the line + did not take as many as he could have taken. Started trapping rats on April 1 + took 182, then shot 282 between break up and close of season on June 7, On lake marked 1 on map there were 250 [+/-] push ups in 1944-45 About 7 in 1945-46 + 60 in 1946-47 He took just 12 rats on it this year Lake marked 2 had 150, 75 good 7 + 12-14 pushups in the same 3 years. [Bert] Boxer does not shoot much on the lakes, does most of that on the creeks + channels. Push ups [underlined]:- In the fall there are usually a large number of small push ups widely scattered about the lakes but these are reduced in number by a third to a half before spring. The push ups that remain are those made over openings where gas bubbles keep the ice thin. There is often thin ice around the
