- were inclined to be very wild. the
ewes particularly took to the rock faces
at my first appearance.
Jasper. May 8/45 [1945]
Left Miette at 4:55 this morning
+ hiked to Devona in time to hear
Churchill announce V.E. day. Drove
on into town. Weather very cold
+ stormy.
Jasper. May 11/45 [1945]
On May 9 drove from Jasper to
the lower end of Medicine Lake where
I met Ed Macdonald [Edward McDonald]. From there we
hiked to the upper end of the lake.
It rained hard during the night but
we left for Maligne Lake at 8:30
+ hiked the 12 miles of very sloppy
trail by 12:30.
Sun came out in afternoon + I hiked
over to the sheep sidehill + counted
the sheep there.
On May 11, came in to Jasper all
the way. Travelling time for 7 miles
= about 5 hours.
The sheep range at Maligne is
heavily browsed + the addition of
elk to the area should cut down
materially the survival abilities of
the sheep.
