Tried to make it to Tar I. [Islet] in am. [morning]
but tho [though] fine + sunny, it was too rough.
Set 3 otter traps on fresh sign E. [east] side
of islets off Hotspring I [Island].
In p.m. [afternoon] reached our Tar I. [Islet] + found
nothing in traps. Some set off + de-
finite A. [Ancient] Murrelet sign. Caught 7 mice
+ 2 shrews on Ramsay. Made up shrews
+ kept mice alive to send down c [with]
Dr. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan to start a colony of
sitkensis for John Hayward's study
Found 2 eagle's nests - one very
large (tall) on island just East of
House I. [Island], 45' up spruce, and other
[with symbol] one large young on N. [north] side Ramsay.
Birds seen in area:
Likely nesting on island: (10 acres?).

Hotspring 60% hemlock, 40% spruce c [with]
sprinkling of crab-apple.
July 22 [1961]
Plane day.
Found nothing in the 3 otter traps. Now
have a total of 11 live mice.
Bright sunny day. Whiled away
the hours by hauling up rocks on end
of kelp - + searching for molluscs
there on [word crossed out]
Plane arrived at 4:30 so able to
have supper at Bessies in Charlotte
afterall. Frank [Alexander William Francis] Banfield joined us : we
shall see him after [Ian McTaggart] Cowan goes.
So ended our few days on Hotspring
Dr. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan found the only way to know
what meal we were eating was to
