- Rosy Finch.
July 12, 1937. Eva Lake, Revelstoke Park, B.C. [British Columbia]
Today watched a [female symbol] bird feeding
on a cliff. It worked quickly
along the ledges, fluttering the
wings often each short
run, much after the
manner of a hermit
thrush. It worked down
hill, from ledge to ledge.
I later shot this bird
+ found its throat pouches
to contain
2 small catterpillars [caterpillars],
2 ground beetle larvae, 5
sprouting balsam seeds +
many saxifrage seeds.
Another [female symbol] shot later
today, high up on a rock
slide had the pouches filled
with saxifrage seeds +
4 balsam seeds.
The birds were very wild
flying high overhead for
the most part.
A [male symbol] sang a song consisting
of a series of notes as swee
swee swee swee swee switchity
switchity switchity swee swee
swee etc. [etcetera] long continued.
6 birds were seen in all.
