the district agriculturist. He strikes
me as an able chap.
According to him the trouble is
confined to a small area north of
Long Lake to the Bull River + #3 Highway
east of Kootenay River.
A rancher Mr Rosicky ranging
around Covalli has no trouble
whereas Magnus Johnson, John
Anderson + M. Jurik all have
trouble. Last year [John] Anderson
found almost all of his 2 year
olds infected with from 6 to 10
flukes.
There is another bad fluke
area up the Elk River along
Wigwam River.
According to Ranch the white tail
+ moose in various parts of the
Kootenay Valley have Fascioloides [underlined] but
he has seen no infected elk.
The ranchers feel that the treatment
of ponds for cattle fluke control
should come under range improvement
+ be paid for out of forestry dept. [department]
funds. There are several swampy
ponds + creeks in which pond
snails occur. A small collection
was made.
