Mammal fauna:-
Deer, racoon [raccoon], mink, otter, Peromysans [Peromyscus]
and Sorex, Mus musculus. Domestic
goats are feral since about 30 years
ago, are numerous.
Pender Islands have a similar fauna
without racoons [raccoons] and with introduced
muskrats on the south island. Mayne
and Galiano have the same fauna as
Saturna.
Racoon [Raccoon]: On August 24, Garry [Cowan] and I shot
four coons at night in the orchard. They
were all in the very large old pear trees.
There were three males and a female, all of
much the same size, about 8 pounds. The
female had nursed this year and the uterus
had two scars in each horn.
