To Tell Cataract in the Eye
Peirce a clean round hole hear the
middle of a visiting Card, hold the card
up to the light close to the Eye, and look
at a piece of Blue Sky With the card close to
the Eye he will not see the round hole at
all, but a comparatively large field with his

Use a barrel, Make a partition of fine
brass wire cloth, and under it put another
one of coarser wire and a wooden support
under it. First put on 3 inches of clean
sharp sand. Then 2 inches of Broken
charcoal, but no dust. Then 4 inches of
clean sand again. Fill up the Barrel.

The Screw Propellor
The propellor was invented at the Same
time by Smith in England and Ericson
in the United States. Each took patents out
in 1836 in England and in 1839 in America.
Each built small vessels in England for a
trial trip. Smith made his vessel of 6 tons
with a wooden Screw. Ericson made his
14 tons and called her the Frnces B. Ogden.
Smiths vessel which he afterwards built was
called the Archimedes, 200 tons and had
Engines by Rennie of 90 horse power,
steamed around Great Brittan [Britain] in May 1840.
Ericksons vessel the Robert F. Stockton,
smaller than Smiths, crossed the Atlantic
under sail in April 1839. Each one
introduced the Screw on Merchant
steamers in 1840. Each introduced the
Screw on War vessels in 1843, Ericson
on the "Princeton" and Smith on the Rattler.

heating or forging. Heat it to a low
red and plunge into ordinary soldering fluid.
