number of bats about camp in evening.
Many gopher hills about camp +
mostly fresh.
Canoe B.C. [British Columbia] June 30. 1937. A family of yg. [young]
chipmunks + a yg. [young] robin about back of camp
Flickers very noisy.
Left Canoe 8.15 a.m. for Revelstoke and
arrived there 11.45 a.m. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan + I collected two
Rock Rabbits close to Sicamous. These
were in rock slide by roadside + are
topotypes. Shot a [female symbol] rabbit near Sicamous 8 a.m.
Left Revelstoke 1.50 p.m. after [Ian McTaggart] Cowan had
phoned Mr W.M. Moore Park Supt. [superintendent] + had
seen Mr Maxwell, govn't [government] agent. Car had
difficulty making top of mountain 6300 ft [feet].
Upper Hudsonian gone. Predominantly trees
Ingleman [Engelmann] spruce 6% Mountain Hemlock 4% + Balsam 90 [%].
Of the shrubs vaccinium + mountain azalea also occasional Juniper. See page 12 *
July 1. 1937. Climbed over + down mountain to
east of camp + saw three marmots - "Okanagana"
Two of these were very tame + close to Ice Box Trail
One of these a very large animal. The third was sitting
on a rocky ledge far down the rocky side + this animal
I collected. It proved to be a [male symbol] still in winter pelage
- a beautiful dark coloured animal with
much brown about head + underparts. Its whistle
sounded much clearer + sharper than Cascadensis.
This animal very similar to that seen in the
Monashee. Saw the following during the day
July 1st July 2 July 3.
