Rode down from Topaz shelter today
amid showers from a dense cloud
ceiling. Distance 10 miles, time 3 hrs [hours] 20 min [minutes].
Game seen:- 2 Moose.
3 goat. (seen before)
Birds:- 3 Cooper hawks, 25 Audubon
warblers, 1 Red breasted nuthatch. 200
pipits. Leucosticte feeding young.
Hoodoo Cabin Aug [August] 23/43 [1943]
Came on here from Blue Creek - distance
15 miles, time 5 hrs [hours] 20 minutes. Almost
a record day - no rain until 6 P.M.
All the way through spruce +
pine forests with the Snake Indian
River on our South. For much
of the distance the river flows
through extensive sedge meadows
+ lakes. The meadows, many of them
are old beaver meadows on
which the willows are only now
coming back. Many of the old houses
are now mounds of grass.
Game seen:- 2 goat on slides on N [North] side.
6 moose. in meadows + lakes.
Birds:- Pair ospreys + nest. 6 Canada Jays,
5 audubon Warblers. 1 Eagle.
