Aug. [August] 15 [1931] My phenacomys traps took two
juvenile phenacomys one of which
was caught during the day + slipped
so badly as to be useless. Traps on
the far side of the lake took
a water shrew, 2 cinereus shrews
1 peromyscus, 1 chipmunk. One of
the traps held a flying squirrels
foot. Set another trap further down
the River.
Took a young male Franklin grouse out
of a covey of yng. [young] Willow Grouse.
Set out some more Phenacomys
traps.
Aug [August] 16 [1931]. Took a fine male Phenacomys
in an old blown over area
in the Jack Pine. The traps
across the river held 2 voles
+ one Peromyscus.
Set out some more Phenacomys
traps. You can count on one
adult animal to each hole
with really fresh cuttings.
Aug [August] 17 [1931]. Phenacomys traps drew
a blank. Those on the far side
of the lake took a vole, a shrew
+ two peromyscus
In the afternoon we drove over to
the [Frank M.] Shillakers, on the way over we
jumped two Sandhill Cranes
in the middle of the road.
