  • This Grassy Lake is ideal muskrat territory almost its entire margin is surrounded by extensive beds of Equisetum limosum [underlined] mixed, here + there with Carex [underlined] which in some places forms solid stands. The banks shelve evenly but slowly into the water providing chance to open the burrows for the use of our cagetraps. Young:- The youngest juveniles taken so far were in den (h). The [female symbol] was in one trap along with the [word crossed out] one of her young. This she picked up in her mouth either by its back or abdomen. Even when the cage was opened she was loth [loath] to leave the youngster + had to be driven from it. This young one was seen to nurse. Measurements of the 3 taken today were [space left blank] These young gave out frequent squeaking calls that were plainly audible even when the small ones were in the den.
