- This Grassy Lake is ideal muskrat territory
almost its entire margin is surrounded
by extensive beds of Equisetum limosum [underlined]
mixed, here + there with Carex [underlined]
which in some places forms solid
stands. The banks shelve evenly
but slowly into the water providing
chance to open the burrows for
the use of our cagetraps.
Young:- The youngest juveniles taken so
far were in den (h). The [female symbol] was
in one trap along with the [word crossed out] one of her young.
This she picked up in her mouth
either by its back or abdomen.
Even when the cage was opened
she was loth [loath] to leave the youngster
+ had to be driven from it.
This young one was seen to
nurse.
Measurements of the 3 taken today
were [space left blank]
These young gave out frequent
squeaking calls that were plainly
audible even when the small ones
were in the den.
The largest young taken were
in den (e). They measured as
