Found one kill near camp. All
chewed up.
Census [underlined]:- Saw 5 [female symbol] + 3 [male symbol], all on low
areas near camp.
Moult:- Certain individuals of both
sexes are almost shed.
Distribution [underlined]:- [James (Jim)] Simpson reports that a
few deer sometimes winter near
Waterfowl lakes. Evidence of deer
hair in coyote droppings suggests
that deer summer near Shadow
Lake + stay there until the late
fall.
Vermilion Crossing June 27/43. [1943]
Kills:- Found 1 winter killed yearling - cause
of death unknown.
Census [underlined] One June 26 near Kootenay R. [river] saw 3 [female symbol].
Some reported to winter on hill just
N. [north] of Mt [mount] Wardle as recently as 1925
at least, probably still do though
heavy snow may be fatal to
such attempts.
