undergrowth but crowberry, a
foliose lichen abundant. Winter
caribou sign everywhere, some fresh
tracks. Moose in winter apparently
abundant. Only moderately so just
now. Some deer. Goat on sidehill
up as far as natural arch - beyond
that barren. E. [East] sidehill from 1 mile
s [south] of this cabin barren. West side
of valley above timberline barren
crags of grey + red stone.
Game:- 1 caribou [female symbol].
22 goat
2 deer.
Birds: Cliff swallows 100 +/-, Tree swallows
10, Audubon warblers 45 +/-, Marsh
hawk 5, Goshawk 3. Red tail 3.
Solitaire 3. Bohemian waxwing 2.

Today worked the sidehill + ridges on
the E [East] of camp as far up as the natural
arch. Climbed over 3 ridges of 4500'. Had
lunch on the boundary ridge looking
down the Sulphur River.
Florally this sidehill exhibits a very
lush growth including plants not
seen elsewhere such as the hellebore
lupine + Heracleum lanatum.
This is not good sheep range but
sheep winter to the number of 24 - these
constitute a small winter band that
