- Castor.
9 mi [miles] N. [north] Aklavik June 17/47 [1947].
In #1 Lake there is quite a lot of
old beaver sign on the willows. As
some of the dead stumps are still
standing I don't think they can be
more than 10 [+/-] years old. No sign of
work on alders.
This year 2 beaver seen in Aklavik
channel.
Aklavik. June 20/47 [1947].
Charlie Smith saw several beaver
in E. channel this year for the
first time.
Fred Cardinal (Husky) with a line
at 134 [degree symbol] - 68 [degree symbol] reports that his area
is full of beaver. He could have
taken 100 by shooting this spring.
Ed. Dick (Husky) 68 + west
Channel saw a lodge + dam in
the spring of 1946 but is afraid
they were poached.
Archie Headpoint, area 79 in the
corner of 68 [degree symbol] - 30' + 136 says that
there are several active colonies on
this area.
55 mi [miles] N.W. [northwest] Aklavik June 24.
On our way up here just
before the small channel joined
the River from the Mts [mountains] we saw
fresh beaver work on willow.
Also wolf tracks.
