Huntingdon B.C. [British Columbia] Feb. [February] 14/35. [1935] One of these birds
heard calling about 9p.m. in bush at
back of ranch. Replied very freely when
mimicked.
Jan [January] 14/36[?] [1936] [male symbol] recd. [received] in flesh from Fred Perry
who found it dead on trail near Point Atkinson
Stomach contained the following:
Earthworms 20
green grub 1
Moth 7/8" [inches] long 1
Bird had been killed by blow on side of head.
July 26. 1936. Huntingdon B.C. [British Columbia]
Several birds seen + heard frequently
during July. One evening a screech owl
sat on garage roof for half an hour, was
not at all alarmed when approached.
This evening, July 26th, at dusk a screech
owl sat on ridge of house roof. Made a
rather hoarse like cat call. Held the little
dog "Gerry" up to see the owl + they both
looked carefully at each other, then
the owl gave its peculiar meiowing[?]
call + flew away.
Pellets from [illegible word] Aug. [August] 5. 1931. (under
[illegible word] in spruce woods) analyzed by Dr [Ian McTaggart] Cowan, Dec [December]
2/31 [1931] contained remains of Microtus drummondi [Microtus pennsylvanicus drummondii - meadow vole].
Huntingdon B.C. [British Columbia] Mch [March] 8th 1939. One seen sitting on
a post in yard of house near Wallaire[?] B.C. [British Columbia] One of these
owls heard calling in Glowensons[?] woods on a dark
night about two or three until past[?].
Huntingdon B.C. [British Columbia] Oct [October] 26th 1941. Screech
owls have been frequently heard at night during
the summer + fall + this evening I called
