- Journal.
Aklavik. Sunday, Aug. [August] 3/47 [1947].
Dawned with low fog + heavy drizzle
clearing by noon. Spent the day
letter writing. Traps took 2 Clethrion. [Clethrionomys]
2 microtus p. [pennsylvanicus] drummondi. Shot a squirrel.
Mrs. Sidgwick tells me that of 7 nests
of Longspur under observation this spring
only 1 raised its young. Others died in the nest.
Other bird's nests reported to have suffered
similar fate.
Lang's Post, 36 mi [miles] S. [south] Aklavik. Aug. [August] 4/47 [1947].
Left Aklavik shortly after noon
+ came here in the canoe in
3 hours. Intermittent rain squalls
+ wind made the travelling most
unpleasant.
Lang's Post. Aug [August] 5/47 [1947].
Prospected the lakes across the
river + east of here + the two
behind the cabin. In evening set
out a line of traps on the latter.
These lakes are of muskeg type
with low, marshy shores fringed
with Menyanthes beds forming
a floating margin. Shot
a [male symbol] + a [female symbol] + banded 2 [male symbol]'s + a [female symbol]
Lang's Post. Aug. [August] 6/47 [1947]
Steady rain all day kept us in
doors save for a quick trip
to the traps.
