The coyote entered the river in
pursuit but was swept downstream
some 30 yards. When it came out it
started in the general direction of the
lamb's flight but it was not
running - just lopeing along.
At this point our rifles entered
the fray. The coyote a male weighed 33 lbs [pounds], thin.
Banff, Alta. [Alberta] Sept. [September] 8, 1945.
Alec [Alex] Nelles tells me that at Shalebanks
several years ago he saw a ewe
give birth to her lamb. It was
within a day or two of June 2.
The ewe lay on her abdomen
with her forelegs projecting straight
forward + though he didn't see her
hind legs he thought they were
directed backward. Birth took
about 6 or 8 minutes + the lamb
was on its feet in a very few
minutes. Within 10 minutes or
so it followed its mother
