- 130 Mile Lake + San Jose River
July 1st/42 [1942] The river for a wide
or (so above the lake is slough-like;
slow-running and choked with weeds.
Dominant growth was Certaophyllum [underlined]
[space left blank], Potamogeton filiformis(?) [underlined]
Nuphar polysepala [underlined]. Along banks was
Typha [underlined], Scirpus [underlined], Carex.
In lake was large banks of Utricularia
vulgaris [underlined] [common bladderwort] in bloom; also Potamogeton
natans [underlined] [pondweed] + P. praelongus(?) [underlined] [Potamogeton praelongus - White-stem pondweed]
Birds [underlined] Wilson's Phalarope, 3 prs [pairs]
Black tern, possibly 15 to 20 prs [pairs] in
two colonies; no nests, eggs seen but young
probably in marsh
Yellow headed blackbirds; adults + young
Red wing " [blackbirds]; " [adults + young]
Marsh wrens - common
Coots - 2 pr [pair] or so
Mallard - 1 female no young
Muskrat [underlined] - feeding platforms + houses
were common, but no rats were seen.
Fish [underlined] large fish (12-15" [inches]) were feeding
under lily pads, sucking at the
surface with much noise.
Minnows were seen in the shallows. Species
not identified. Some were caught in River
+ preserved.
