- Parasitic Jaeger.
Kidliut Bay, Richards Isl. [Island] July 24, 1947
This evening I went out to Egg Isl. [Island], a nesting
site of Glaucous Gull. Most of the half
feathered young took to the sea while the adults
wheeled + screamed overhead. A jaeger
came in + swooped on a swimming
gull chick. It was immediately bit
by 3 or 4 gulls + knocked into the water.
There it was pecked + buffeted
until helpless. I recovered the
bird, which was by now near
death + found no broken bones
but skin tears on the throat +
large bruises on throat, head,
breast + wings.

Two dark phase parasitics came
to camp today + were collected.

Lee Post reports birds, apparently
this species, on he ice floes off
Pullen Island.
