Coupe with large globular body, small mouth opening and rounded flat base is covered with flaking, finely crackled straw colour glaze. It was excavated at Lin- zhang in Hebei province.

Bowl of slightly squat bulbous shape with small mouth, covered with flaking, crackled straw colour glaze, which stops short of foot.

Jar of ovoid shape with short neck, low splayed foot with concave base, three double-loop handles joining body at neck and shoulder, covered with crackled vitreous pale green glaze stopping in an uneven line well short of foot, depressed band below handles and a raised ridge at mid-section.

glazed stoneware, ht. 16 cm Tang dynasty, 618-907 ARM Jar with wide mouth, straight neck, rounded shoulders decorated with double incised lines, two triple-strand loop handles, sides tapering towards splayed foot, covered with crackled vitreous pale green glaze exten�ding to foot. It was found northwest of Xiaotun near Anyang.
54 Large jar with three legs
glazed stoneware, ht. 16 cm Tang dynasty, 618-907 FMN*
Large jar with squat globular body, sides curved to short neck with everted rim, supported by three comma form legs, glazed inside and out with pale yellowish- green glaze. Thread-like incised bands at shoulders and mid-section.

glazed stoneware, ht. 19 cm Tang dynasty, 618-907 JMH Elegant jar with wide cup-shaped mouth with flat rim, depressed globular body, low spreading foot, covered with transparent crackled light greenish glaze with some iron spots. Lid is in shape of lamp tray with pricket in the recessed centre. For similar shaped jar but different lid see white-ware jar of the Boston Mu�seum of Fine Arts in Margaret Medley�s Tang Pottery and Porcelain, London and Boston, 1981, No. 69.
56 Three ewers
glazed stoneware, ht. 14.7 cm, 9 cm and 14.2 cm Tang dynasty, 618-907 FMN*, ARM and JMH Pear-shaped ewers with wide flaring mouth, short round spout on shoulder, two double-strand loops on
opposite sides of shoulder, a large double-strand handle attached at neck and just below shoulder. Two large ewers covered with straw colour glaze and the small one with almost no glaze.

Miniature globular coupe with small mouth opening
and flat base, splashed with cobalt-blue glaze over
white slip flowing irregularly halfway down the exterior.
58 Jar with tortoise-head spout
glazed earthenware, ht. 5.6 cm
Tang dynasty, 618-907 JMH Well-potted body of squat globular form tapering to�wards slightly splayed base, with short neck and flared mouth rim, covered on outside with emerald green glaze over white slip flowing irregularly over the sides but stopping short of foot. Unusual tortoise-head spout on one side.
59 Tomb figurine of civil official grey earthenware with pigment, ht. 18.2 cm Northern Wei dynasty, 386-534 FMN
Figurine wears crested hat, half-length wide-sleeved coat and baggy trousers tied at the knee. Typical style of dress for the Northern Wei period. The right hand held in front has a hole where figure would have carried an object. Well-modelled face has gentle smile.
60 Two tomb figurines of hooded attendants

Standing figures on small bases with hoods, half-
length coats open at the top, baggy trousers. The
hands, which are clasped in front, have a hole for the
purpose of carrying an object, perhaps a banner. The
figures are covered with flaking straw colour glaze.
61 Two tomb figurines of standing ladies
glazed earthenware with pigment, ht. 21.8 cm late Sui/early Tang period, first half of 7th century jmh Figurines of women with elaborate headdresses, wear�ing full length dresses tied at the chest with two ribbon ends hanging down the front, long narrow sleeves, shawls over the shoulders. Their hands are clasped in front. Figures are covered with flaking straw colour glaze and have traces of pigment.
62 Tomb figurine of hooded male
glazed earthenware, ht. 21 cm
late Sui/early Tang period, 7th century jmh Hooded figure with long hanging coat thrown over the shoulders. The hands, which are not in the sleeves, are clasped in front and have a hole where an object could be inserted. The baggy trousers worn under a knee length garment extend to the ground. Figure covered with straw colour glaze.
