- Journal. May 11/44 [1944]
lake + to the lookout. From
there I could see a good chain
of beaver ponds on top of the
ridge west of here back at the
head of this little creek half a mile
west of here. Lots of beaver also
at Celestine + Patricia Lakes.
Jasper. May 12/44 [1944]
This morning drove up to the lookout
near Celestine Lake, then in to Jasper
for lunch. Left Jasper at 3:30 + drove
to Decoigne returning at 9:30.
At Devona saw first cowbird a [male symbol]
The solitary sandpipers are very active
around Patricia Lake beaver ponds.

Jasper. May 13, 1944
In the morning drove west 4.5 miles
+ worked on a cow elk shot on
the way in yesterday (#44-5-13). Met
Dr Rowan + was invited to their cottages
for the evening. On the way saw
10 elk.
Rowan thinks that his data shows
a 10 year cycle in mange on coyotes inverse
to the rabbit cycle. Also states that
deer are on the increase almost all over
