June. 1 [1931]. In the morning I lifted + re
set some of the traps at Chestermans
Beach + did my washing; spent the
afternoon skinning.
In the evening we had dinner
with Mr Cooper, of the oil station
He informed me that he had
raised a pet deer at Long beach
when he lived there. This
grew to a great size. In its
sixth year producing typical
4 point antlers with a single small
brow tine. This deer had about
one or two gallons of milk daily
all its life. It was shot this
year. Examined 3 more plates,
one small 2 - said to be typical
of the district, one small 3 +
a very lopsided 2. of fair size.
June 2 [1931]. Dug clams in the morning
then went to traps at Chesterman's
Took one Peromyscus. Saw 2
squirrels + heard two more
In afternoon lifted traps
on small Island in the
bay. Had Mr + Mrs Allard to
dinner.
June 3 [1931]. Skinned in morning +
went to Tofino in the afternoon
to meet the boat. On the way
back we visited Death Island
There on the outer shore about
