High wind + cold night made the rats inactive + centred their activity on a piece of lake shore we could trap only with difficulty took just 3 rats + one drowned itself. Waterfowl. Old Squaw 2 [male symbol] 2 [female symbol] Scaup 6 4 Pintail 9. Mallard 2 2 Green w. [winged] teal 3 1 Swan 1 Amer [American] Goldeneye 1 white-w. [winged] Scoter 2 8 mi [miles] 9. Aklavik June 18/47 [1947]. This evening trapped # 6 Lake a couple of miles up river from the cabin. A steep sided lake that had flooded only a little. Two bays bore heavy fringes of Carex aquatilis [underlined] + in these the rats had been feeding actively on the stem bases + roots. Took 5 rats 2 of which drowned. Aklavik June 19/47 [1947] Came in from [Bert] Boxer's, high N. [North] wide, rough seas.
