  • Buccinum plectrum. Sta [Station] 611-613. Plumper Sound. BC. Aug [August] 29-30 About a dozen living specimens + several with hermits taken today. Until this species is mature it has a very fragile lip + this is apparently broken almost annually. Repairs can be seen on almost every specimen. Can all this damage be crab attack - if so it might be developed into a hazard index. This species behaves much like a strombus in the active movements of its shell; The upward stretching of the body to move objects out of its way. The foot + body are well marked with sharp black streaks + splashes on a white ground. Siphon is very long + directed upwards. A peculiar thing
