No paste or other hard stones do so June 27 1891 --- To Cut a rubber Stopper Use a sharp Edge brass tube as thin as possable, and lubricate with soap and water. It may be done by hand or in a lathe. The tube is rotated and pressed against the stopper June 13 1891 --- Remedy for Diptheria Use ordinary parafine same as used in lamps, scrape off the membrane and apply the parafine. Usually gets well in 48 hours. Oct 24 1891 --- Test for diamonds Prick a needle hole through a card and look at it through the doubthful stone. If it is false, 2 holes will be seen on the card; if it is a diamond, only 1 hole will be seen, for Every other stone at all resembling the diamond, gives a double reflection. This property is made use of for determining an uncertain stone. If the finger is placed behind the stone, and looked at it through a magnifier, the grain of the skin will be plainly visible if the stone is not a diamond, but if it is a diamond, it will not be distinguishable at all. A diamond in a solid setting made [may] be identified in the same way; if genuine, the setting at the back cannot be distinguished, but if a false stone, Either the foil or the setting can be seen Family Herald & [and] Weekly Star Montreal Dec 18 1894
