Copperas is sulphate of iron and contains no copper. Salts of lemon is only Oxalic Acid. Carbolic Acid is not an acid, but is a phenol. Cobalt contains no cobalt, but arsenic. Soda water has no soda in it, nor does sulpuric Ether contain sulphur. Sugar of lead has no sugar, cream of tarter has no cream, milk of lime has no milk, oxygen means the acid maker, but hydrogen is the Essential Element of all acids, and many acids contain no oxygen. German Silver contains no silver. Black lead contains no lead. Mosaic gold is sulphate [struckthrough] sulphide of tin. May 12 1888 --- Fast Ocean Trip The tea steamer "Glenshiel" came to New York from Amoy China with tea in 42 days 13 hours, best on record August 21 1887 RIGHT PAGE Cement for Iron 275 Take Equal parts of Flour Sulphur and dry white lead, with 1/6 part of Borax, mix thoroughly in a morter. Then add water drop by drop until the mixture begins to get a little cloudy. Another receipt is Dissolve 2 1/2 drams Camphor in 11 fluid drams Alcohol. Dissolve 38 grains Nitrate of Potash and 38 grains Sal Ammoniac in 2 fluid drams Water and mix the solutions September 3 1887 --- To Polish Mineral Specimens Grind them on a grindstone, Let the last grinding be v ery light. THen rub with ground pumice Stone and Water or on End piece of wood, or a piece of Sole leather, until a partial polish is obtained. Finish on a piece of Sole leather with oxide of tin or rouge, wet.
