Queen Charlotte City. May 28/51 [1951]
Waited around all day trying to get
transportation to Massett. It finally
materialized about 6:30 P.M. + I got to
the village by 7:30.
Massett. May 29/51. [1951]
This morning walked around Delkatla
Inlet with Ronald Stewart. In P.M. [afternoon] got
a car + drove out to [space left blank] Point
just w [west] of Tow Hill. Very few
deer tracks within 5 miles of Massett
but several at all points examined
near Tow Hill. [Ronald] Stewart remarks
that the road is hunted constantly
by people looking for deer. When
he came here first in [space left blank] there
were only 2 or 3 motor vehicles
in town, now there are 65 +/-
[Ronald] Stewart doubts that the red
deer were all shot. He saw
30 hinds in one group + has
known of 10 or a dozen
stags shot. Last year a
"young elk" - answering the description
of a good red deer stag - was
taken at Frederick Island or
in that vicinity.
He also saw 15 elk in one group
+ in another when flying over
the Pontoons - Tlell country.
