  • Rained hard in late afternoon + all night. Drove down to the Blackwater bridge in evening. Lac La Hache. July 19/49 [1949] Left Pantage Lake at 10:40 arrived Quesnel 2:30, Road terrible. Drove to base camp here in late afternoon. On way out from Pantage lake saw Ruffed grouse + 9 yng [young] (large) 2 [male symbol]'s + another [female symbol] apparently without young. Spruce grouse + 3 yng [young]. Below Soda Creek; blue grouse + 2 large yng [young] Moose cow + calf near Goose Lake. Hillen says that area near Trout Lake on Nazco [Nazko] Road is excellent hunting country for Ducks, Geese, Dear + Moose. Lac La Hache, July 20/49 [1949]. Set up trap on Watson Lake in P.M. [evening] morning was threatening rain. On Elliot Lake (105 mile) saw. Baldpates [American wigeon] + 4 2, 9 2 Mallard + 4 3 Goldeneye + 11 2, 5 2 Bufflehead + 3 3. Redhead + 4 2
