July 31. [1929] Mr Hearle brought me
a large male Muskrat
(No [Number] 158). A large dog
killed it in the shallow
water on the edge of
Osoyoos lake.
Aug. [August] 4. [1929] Took a vole (159) among
som [crossed out] a patch of large reeds
at the edge of the Indian
School Pond. The ground
is very wet + marshy.
There is very little evidence
of runways, traps set
where there was no
indication of runways
were sprung. A trap
set in a muskrat runway
caught a juv. [juvenile] Mus. musculus.
I saw 4 muskrats
in among these reeds. They
were eating the bleached ends.
When swimming he may
or may not use his tail
for propulsion; underwater
he does not seem to use
