Jasper to Poboktan. April 21/43 [1943]
Examined a prime 6 pt [point] bull, no
ticks at Mile 42. Tracks indicated it
killed by coyotes about 2 weeks ago in
a short chase. Throat torn open.
Pellets:- 5 pellets 100% deer
3 " [pellets] 100% elk
1 " [pellet] 100% sheep
1 " [pellet] 90% elk, 10% squirrel
1 " [pellet] 100% rabbit.
2 or 3 coyotes involved
Pyramid Lake. April 22/43 [1943]
Coyote disturbed near end of road at
noon. Ran across lake.
Banff, Alta [Alberta] April 24/43 [1943]
Coyotes are shot on opportunity still.
Food. Examined 2 pellets - both had 100% elk (offal)
Found where a magpie had been killed + eaten
and an elk kill [word crossed out] carcass.
None of the wardens here have seen any sign
of coyotes killing elk but [Warden Bruce] Mitchell found
a deer standing in Vermillion [Vermilion] Lake with
3 coyotes watching it. and [Warden Ulysses] LaCasse
saw a deer with a coyote gripping its
flank jump off the bank onto the road
just ahead of his car. The coyote ran off.
