  • 135 Journal. Massett. May 29/51. [1951] Very little transient bird life. 26 Crane, 93 Canada Geese, + 1 whistling swan 4 white fronted geese, a semipalm [semipalmated] plover + 6 western Sandpipers seen. 1 [Ronald] Stewart showed me the little swamp where he took the Virginia Rail + showed me young cedar waxwings, shrike taken in Nov [November] + Dec. [December], a yellow warbler. Spoke of selling many specimens to U. of Mich. [University of Michigan] museum. Miss Ely Wefers is [Ronald] Stewarts sister in law. Massett May 30/51. [1951] In AM worked on Dalkatla + as soon as tide was right drove out to mile 9 + walked into MacIntosh meadows. This is a large open area - 3 to 4 miles long + half a mile wide that is variously between a bog + a muskeg. Some parts are wet meadow. The wet meadow areas are grass covered + have small spruce starting they seem to have better drainage than the muskeg areas. Scattered stunted pines + cedars interspersed with 2 cotton sedges, sedge, Ledum, Kalmia + cranberry provide the more obvious vegetation. This is a nesting ground for crane
