Saw 6 Hooded mergansers
2 mallard.

Townsend warblers, western flycatchers
+ juncos common. Robins seen.

Am staying the night at
the Tumbledown hotel run by
a Mr + Mrs Ryper from Vancouver.

Examined the area around Kummis [Kumdis]
slough + Mayer Lake Road - This goes
4 miles or so to a Mr Duftons [?] place
through fairly heavy timber
The trees are hemlock, spruce +
cedar - spruce dominant all 3
pioneering. Undergrowth 2
Vacciniums, Menziesia, Polytrichum
Salmon berry + some stunted salal
The deciduous trees on the
island are Alnus rubra, wild
crabapple, one or 2 willows
+ Cornus stolonifera. The latter
grows to a height of 20 ft [feet].
There is some thimbleberry.
