- A slow, rough, boat trip back to camp.
After supper set 80 traps on
[illegible word] Island in Island Inlet, just N.W. [northwest] of
Burnaby Narrows. Caught a couple more
salmon about Geo. [George] Bay camp in evening
July 10 [1961]
Found one marten + an otter in our
traps near camp so had a job each
set out for us while boating north. De-
parture delayed due to saltwater in
Jedway's gas. They certainly seem to be
a gypo outfit.
Clear day as headed north. Three
rats in our traps on Island inlet island
Arrived at Hotspring for supper + it
was hot. No wind + burning sun.
Never been so hot on the Charlottes
Spent a hot, buggy night
July 11
Hot, sunny, windy as boated all
day. Saw 3 small deer swimming channels -
on different occasions. Heat almost
prompted us to do so. In evening
low tide held us up at Louise Narrows
Found song sparrows nest on ground
at high tide mark in grass: 4 eggs.
Finally reached Aero at Midnight
July 12 [1961]
Drove to Alliford to day wash clothes
get reorganized, etc [etcetera]. Athol [Atholl] Sutherland
Brown + Jim at Alliford now. Took
specimens over to Charlotte in evening
Hot, burning, day.
July 13
Drove down to Moresby Camp intending
to climb nearby mountain but found the looks
of Moresby Mt. [Mountain] more inviting so drove a few
miles towards Peele [Peel] Inlet. Then began a
long hard climb thru [through] really crappy country
along a ridge leading to summit. Over 4
hours to treeline whence, as usual,
going easy + we were able to climb
peak itself. Large patches of snow on NE [northeast]
side. On verdant pastures of W. [west] side
11 fine buck grazing + 1 doe.
Clear weather + so enjoyed ourselves
thoroughly in the Alplands. Six hours to
summit + 1 3/4 down to road by a different
route. Collected plants + mosses.
July 14.
Recovered from climb + shipped
Landrover to Q.C.C. [Queen Charlotte City] with D. Kendall Jr.
He had been to Tow Hill + had picked
up alot of borers: Platiodon [underlined]. Managed
