Siffleur R. [River] July 15/43 [1943]
Many elk trails crossed Clearwater
Pass + came down the Siffleur. Have
as yet seen no sign of wintering
though Phillips saw 5 or 6 in here late
last fall including both sexes.
Saw a 5 pt [point] bull at the lick.
Big Flats, Pipestone R. [River] July 17/43 [1943].
A few elk had come up the pipestone
+ over the pass but there is a very
small resident summer population.
Pipestone cabin. July 18/43 [1943].
Percy Woodworth the warden on this
district reports seeing 10-12 elk cows
here in February - 4-5 ft [feet] of snow
but all appeared in good condition.
This was the first instance of
wintering here.
Banff. July 20/43 [1943]
Elk tracks coming up to Molar
pass from both sides.
Banff. July 26/43 [1943]
While in Jasper recently saw 5 [female symbol] + 1 calf.
on the gravel bars of the Sunwapta not
far below the ice fields + 5 [female symbol]'s at mile 30
S [south] of Jasper.
Recent counts W. [west] of Banff in which sex + age
were established are.
9 spike [male symbol]'s, 3 2 yr [year] [male symbol]'s, 10 yearl [yearling] [female symbol]'s, 64 [female symbol]'s, 27 calves
