some poplar + aspen
willow, Lonicera + whitebark
pine + jack pine constitutes the
major shrub + tree growth. The
willows are browsed high, apparently
last summer + fall. Though there
is some indication that moose, at
least had wintered. No goat
seen
At noon climbed mt. [mountain] east of
camp + shot a [female symbol] goat. Spent the
rest of the day working on it.
Willow + aspen on the sidehill
heavily browsed by moose
This country is definitely a summer
range in which a few moose
+ goat winter. It appears to be
well stocked. The critical situation
here + throughout this southern
part of the park is winter range
particularly for elk + deer. These
animals almost all pull down
to the Spray lakes area, though
the odd bull elk attempts to
winter. Most of these probably
die.
There is a dearth of young stock.
In 22 goat seen in the last 2 days only
2 were yearlings + of the 6 deer around
the cabin (5 [female symbol]) only 1 is a year old
+ no yearling [words crossed out]
