- Ondatra
a female young, the first young one
seen this year.
In one burrow with 2 exit tunnels
we took a [male symbol] + [female symbol]. In another, we
took a [male symbol] + a young (10" [inch]) Again
an indication of monogamy.
The reaction of [male symbol] rats to the squeak
call would suggest a degree of
territoriality during the breeding season
at least.
Injuries [underlined]:- Adult male #33, a very large
rat, too large for use of the leg
bands on the tail when taken from
the trap had both eyes practically
closed, with very swollen lids +
had the tips of the ears badly
swollen. It had been exposed to
mosquitos for perhaps 12 hours
but had been free to defend itself
from them or to make use of
quantity of debris in its trap
for protection.
Breeding:- Ad [adult] female shot yesterday, see
autopsy sheet 2988
