- Cowichan Lake. May 7, 1939.
gregariousness [underlined] 6 deer seen in one group, these
broke from the bushes surrounding
a small swamp + made off
in various directions.
A doe + fawn jumped later
in the morning made off
up hill + up wind together.
This was a sunny day, very
warm with a light west
wind. The deer were all
out in the open. We did not
work the windward side of
the slope + therefore no [know] nothing
of the distribution of beds.
Most of the deer sign is
in the bottomlands just
now
