- Oct 7 [October] Gothenburg:-
Arrived here tonight after an uneventful
trip. Boarded the S.S. Suecia + am comfortably
settled as sole occupant of #147.
Oct [October] 8. Enroute across N. [North] Sea.
At 10 oclock this morning 210 miles from
Gothenburg a large thrush was flying alongside
the boat, also saw a little gull, several larger
gulls + 6 razorbills. A force 6 or 7 wind
from the West shifting to SW [southwest] by noon made
the ship wallow badly.
Oct [October] 9. Arrived in London about 10 o'clock the day
after a terrible railroad wreck had killed
80-100 people in a suburban London station
London business men spend so much time
in social life that I find it is going to be
impossible to complete my work in the
time I had counted on.
I have seen Sotheby, Major General Bullen
Smith at Muffield, made a tentative application
for rooms at London House for early December,
picked up my mail at B.C. [British Columbia] House. I have
cancelled visits to the I.C.I. [Imperial Chemical Industries] Lab + to
the Duke of Bedfords estate until later.
Tonight I take the train for Edinburgh.
