  • Felis concolor. Jasper. May 4/45. [1945] Wells has seen in 20 years about 10 coyotes killed by cougar + in most instances they were at cougar kills. A female he was following in one day killed and ate a coyote + later pulled down a deer. ' [Jasper] May 9/45 [1945] Examined remains of a doe deer killed just behind the upper cabin on Medicine Lake. Though Ed Macdonald was in the cabin + the kill took place less than 10 yards from it he heard no sound. Waterton L. [Lake] July 18/1945. F.H. Riggall of Twin Butte reports very few lions in this area. Two or three sets of tracks are seen in a couple of winters around Yarrow Cr. [creek] + Pass Creek. See Oreamnos [underlined] notes for this date for account of lion killing this animal Banff. Sept [September] 8/45 [1945] Alec Nelles tells me that he has weighed several Mt [mountain] lions. One old male in poor condition weighed 171 lbs. [pounds] a small ad [adult] [female symbol] 90 lbs. [pounds] Average [female symbol] about 140 lbs. [pounds] Largest [male symbol] estimated at 200 lbs [pounds], this animal had hunted for 4 days before making a kill
